ALICE SPRINGS
It’s great how laid-back it is here, it’s a much slower pace than the city and I like that. Everyone says the city I came from is like a big country town but I noticed it’s not when I came here. Everyone is friendly and willing to help out, and there are no shopping queues!
I like dealing with the customers – you have a lot to do with the outside world, you get to meet face to face with everyone and that’s good. I like meeting the town customers from council, and sometimes we have customers coming in from the stations.
I like to go camping with my wife and six-year-old son – we go to Ayers Rock, which we call “the rock”. It’s about four hours’ drive from here, and we also go camping at King’s Canyon.
We also go fossicking for semi-precious gemstones like garnets and rubies at Gem Tree and Ruby Gap – it’s better to do that after rain because the gemstones glimmer in the riverbed.
Alice Springs is very family oriented – there are lots of outdoors things for kids to do. It’s safe for them to ride their bikes, they’re not stuck indoors.
